In the late afternoon, the light reaches the far wall.
I had lived here for months before noticing this. There was usually something brighter in front of me, something that changed more quickly and seemed to require an answer. The wall had no such claim.
A room without a screen can feel strangely unfinished at first. The hands search for a familiar task. The silence seems to be waiting for us to repair it.
Then ordinary things begin to acquire detail. A chair has a worn edge. The street has several kinds of quiet. A thought can remain incomplete for more than a few seconds.
The room was always offering these things. I am learning how to accept them.
